Fairfield County Special Olympics Equestrian

Jason and Andrea have coached the Fairfield County Special Olympics Equestrian team since 2012. When Saving Grace was formed in 2016, they continued to coach and are still current coaches for the team. Each year we have an open house for potential athletes and from there we have formed a yearly Equestrian team. We typically have 10-18 athletes each year. We have weekly team practices learning all the skills necessary to participate in various classes at the State Competition held in the Fall. We encourage our riders to show in local open shows with typical riders to gain experience. Our athletes participate in Rail, Horsemanship, Trail, and Barrels classes.

YEDA TEAM

2025 was the first year Saving Grace participated in the Youth Equestrian Development Association (YEDA) as part of the Hancock Horseman’s team. YEDA is a national program that encourages the development of riders’ skills, emphasizes exposure to scholarship opportunities and encourages making connections with college programs. (showyeda.com) We had four Special Olympics athletes participate in the EWD (Equestrians with Disabilities) classes. They participated in two YEDA shows this year and all four qualified for the National Show in McDonald TN. We went to Nationals and our athletes amazed us all by coming home National Champions, winning 1st place in one or more classes. Next year we will be competing in YEDA with our own Saving Grace TRC team. More information to come on that.
